Academic and technical curriculum
At the West Midlands Construction UTC (WMCUTC) our curriculum is different to other schools and traditional types of learning. Students can choose from one of our programme pathways in Design, Build or Innovate. This will team academic subjects with practical learning, and core subjects alongside a small number of optional subjects up to GCSE or A Level equivalent.
Year 12 and 13 Students
Technical Studies: Construction & Built Environment TechBac Level 2 and/or Digital TechBac Level 2 – progressing to Level 3 in Year 13
Core Studies: GCSEs in English Language, Mathematics and ICT
Optional Studies: Students will be able to supplement their studies from a range of GCSE options
Technical Studies: Construction & Built Environment TechBac Level 3 and/or Digital TechBac Level 3
Core Studies: AS Level Mathematics or Core Mathematics, AS Extended Project
Optional Studies: Students will study one A Level subject linked to their chosen pathway (Design, Build or Innovate) and may select a further A Level or vocational subject such as Art & Design (3D Design), Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computing, English Literature, Geography, Graphic Design, ICT, Mathematics or Further Mathematics, Modern Foreign Languages or Physics
For truly exceptional students we offer an exciting new programme of enhanced learning. This will follow the same basic structure as the Level 3 programme but students will be able to access Level 4 learning (Foundation Degree) for certain units of their technical studies and may select up to three A Levels in their optional studies. Students following this programme may be able to study the Cambridge Pre-U qualification in place of certain A Level courses.
